Recent decades have seen the prevalence of smoking greatly decrease throughout America, which is a great sign to say the least. Still, there are those that can’t kick the habit, and it’s all too easy to fire up a heater to make those longer drives a bit more bearable. That’s all well and good, but it can also lead to some pretty gross smelling cars with enough time.

If you just bought a used vehicle that has lingering odors inside, or want to keep your model presentable for those who step in, you’ll need the right tools to do the job. So, today our Poulin Auto Sales team wants to show you how to eliminate a smoke smell from your car – it’s easier than you might think!

Dispose of all cigarettes and replace air filter

Long after your cigarette has ran out of tobacco, it’ll still produce a lingering smoke smell, especially if you left it in your vehicle’s ashtray. The first step to cutting out the smokey aura in your car is to take all the cigarettes out of it and dispose of them. It might also help to replace your vehicle’s air filter – this way, you’ll have fresh oxygen circulating!

Vacuum your car thoroughly

Cigarette smoke is notorious for trapping itself in materials such as leather and cloth, which is unfortunate given that these are the two most popular seating surfaces in today’s vehicles. The next time you go to the car wash or gas station, be sure to throw a couple quarters into the vacuum machine. You’ll be that much closer to getting your vehicle aired out, and your interior will be cleaner as a result!

Add a new air freshener

Once you’ve got your vehicle cleaned out, the final step is to get it smelling fresh again. Head over to your favorite auto parts store and pick up an air freshener – you’re that much closer to making your ride feel so fresh and so clean!
