Summer is quickly approaching and with it will come warm weather. While this is great for outdoor activities, it can make your parked car unbearably hot. This isn’t the time when you want your AC to fail. Take a look below to learn how to know when it’s time to get your car’s AC looked at!
How to know when to get your car’s AC serviced
Does it still blow cold? If your car is blowing warm air instead of cold, this is probably the most obvious sign that you should get your car’s AC looked at. Depending on where you live and what the temperature is, you may not always realize that your AC needs service until it’s desperately needed on a hot day. Your AC might also just be taking too long to cool down your car, which can be do to not having enough refrigerant.
Does your AC make weird noises? We always recommend turning down the radio and just listening to the noises your car makes as it starts and runs. This can help establish a baseline for what noises are normal and what noises could be cause for concern. If you hear grating noises when your run the AC, your fan may need some service. A high pitched noise? Could be an issue with a belt.
Does your AC smell? A foul odor is one of the easiest ways to detect something is wrong with your car– and is usually one of the quickest ways to get you to take it in! If there is a mildew scent when you run the AC, it probably indicates that mold is growing somewhere. This is definitely one where you want to bring in your car right away.
Is water pooling by the front floorboards? If your AC unit’s drainage hose has a clog, it can cause the water to pool in the front of your interior instead of draining properly beneath your vehicle.
