Planning a Summer Cookout

5 Tips for Throwing a Successful Summer Cookout

If there’s one thing we love about summer, it’s getting together with old friends that we don’t see frequently enough. That’s why we gladly use warmer weather as an excuse to throw a summer cookout, and inviting half the neighborhood to our shindig. But how can we ensure that our summer party is a success? Here are five tried-and-true tips for throwing a party that your guests will remember for years to come.

Tips for Throwing a Successful Summer Cookout

Make a Guest List

This may seem like an obvious tip, but you’d be surprised how many party-planners simply wing it in this regard. However, not only does making a guest list ensure that you’ll know exactly who’s coming, but it will also give you a better idea of how many people to plan for. The best way to do this is to use modern technology, starting with an email chain or Facebook group.

Throwing a Successful Summer CookoutDon’t Try to Take On Too Much

There are obvious reasons why it’s important to delegate your duties. First, it will allow you to not run around like a maniac at your own party; secondly, you really can’t hope to possibly tackle all the food, beverages and planning all by yourself. So decide which menu items you’d like to serve, select a few dishes you’ll plan to make yourself, and then ask a few preferred friends to help with the rest.

Map Our Your Property

The best parties are generally the ones that have taken a solid amount of foresight in their planning, and this requires making a map to show where different items will be situated geographically. Make a map showing where you’ll have seating, beverages, games, a campfire, or anything else you have planned. Then, you can share your map with your helpers without having to explain yourself over and over again.

Plan Ahead for Your Activities

A great party doesn’t happen on accident. It regularly takes heavy foresight, and this applies to the specific activities you’ll be offering to your guests as well. Will your guests be playing poker? Or badminton? Or singing karaoke? Whatever you have planned, it’s a good idea to gather the equipment you’ll need, so you don’t have to waste a bunch of time running around scavenging for materials.

Make Your Perfect Party Playlist
